Dr Peter Hickey
Peter graduated from the University of Queensland in 1993 and has worked since then in North Queensland (Mackay, Cairns, The Cape and Torres Strait, and the Atherton Tableland). He has completed advanced training in rural general practice, and in obstetrics and gynaecology. He has a particular interest in general medicine, but also has many years’ experience in skin cancer surgery. Peter additionally works part-time for James Cook University as an educator for both medical student and general practitioners in-training. With his wife Carmel, Peter co-founded Eacham Medical Centre in Malanda in 2004.
Dr Carmel Hickey
Carmel undertook undergraduate medical studies at the University of Queensland and postgraduate training in womens health and general practice in Cairns and the Atherton Tablelands. She has experience in all aspects of general practice with an interest in womens health and palliative care.
Dr Laura Vallerine
Originally from Cairns, Laura completed her medical training at James Cook University in 2010, before going on to complete her specialist general practice training in 2015.
Laura began working at Eacham Medical Centre after moving to the Tablelands with her husband in 2015. She has since had two children and has now returned to us indefinitely after completing her maternity leave.
Laura enjoys child and adolescent health, women's health and sexual health, but offers all aspects of general practice care for all age groups. She also participates in shared antenatal care both with the hospital and private obstetricians.
Dr Margot Doherty
Margot completed her medical studies at James Cook University in 2015 and has been working in the Tablelands region since 2018. She is due to obtain her fellowship with the RACGP in 2020. Margot has also completed a Diploma in Child Health and is currently undertaking a Certificate of Primary Care Dermatology. She loves the variety of General Practice but if Margot had to pick areas of interest they would be Child and Adolescent health, Mental Health and Dermatological conditions.
Dr Rebekah Adams
Bek finished her medical degree at the Univeristy of Queensland. She has subsequently finished her advanced GP training in obstetrics and gynaecology and is undertaking her final year of rural generalist training here with us at Eacham Medical. Bek has an interest in women & childrens health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health as well as environmental sustainability.
